you are meant to shine!

We are all meant to shine – to enjoy our unique gifts and talents and to share these with others. When we experience things that hurt us or cause us distress, however, it becomes difficult for us to enjoy life and to be the best version of ourselves.

I know that your search means that you are struggling. Maybe you are feeling vulnerable, lost, or perhaps even angry and afraid. I am here to help. When life’s challenges feel overwhelming, you do not have to fight your battles alone. I’m happy that you’ve found my website, and that you’ve taken the first step toward healing and happiness.

I am here to help

Jean L. Ferri, Ph.D.

Registered Psychologist | CPBC #01081

My goal is for you to rediscover joy, find peace, and be healthy—for you to be the best version of yourself. As a humanitarian and lover of science, I have practiced Clinical Psychology for over 20 years. I have a special interest in how the brain changes through neuroplasticity—how it responds to negative life events, and also how it can be guided back to a place of balance and health.

Using personally-tailored therapy informed by years of experience and continued study, I can help you with many emotional, psychological, and physical problems such as anxiety, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), depression, chronic pain, migraines, vertigo, and more. These symptoms are common to experience after living through a particularly stressful or upsetting event, and can also accumulate over a longer period of time as a result of chronic factors such as unhealthy relationships. Given what we now know about the brain, none of these struggles have to be lifelong afflictions.

my credentials

I completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Simon Fraser University and was Registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia in 1993. After graduating, I worked at Riverview Hospital and local mental health centres, while beginning a private practice that I have maintained for over 20 years. I studied with the Canadian Foundation for Trauma Research and Education for six years, focussing on the treatment of individuals who suffer from symptoms of trauma and other forms of dysregulation in the autonomic nervous system. I completed advanced studies in High Impact Trauma, Relational Trauma, Medical and Dental Trauma, and Shock Trauma. In 2012, I became a faculty member at Thompson Rivers University where I teach Introductory Psychology, Research Design, and The Psychology of Human Resilience online.

what to expect

When I receive your information, I will contact you to set up our first appointment. Our sessions will be 50 minutes long and take place virtually using Zoom
( click here for more information about Zoom sessions ).

Typically we would meet once every 1 to 2 weeks. We will work together to identify troubling symptoms and target the things that are keeping you from truly shining

In therapy, I use a combination of mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and somatic approaches based on the most current understanding of brain-behavior relationships. These interventions help to heal underlying dysfunctional pathways and restore healthy functioning. You can expect to begin to feel better in a relatively short period of time.

NOTE: I see individual adult clients only. For those seeking treatment for children, relationship/marital or family counselling, the British Columbia Psychological Association ( www.psychologists.bc.ca ) has a helpful referral service that can connect you with a suitable psychologist.

My fee is $250 per session and can be paid by credit card or e-transfer.

I will provide you with a detailed receipt that can be used for reimbursement through your private insurance company. You do not need to have a referral to access my services.
